David was in Arizona when we last spoke, winter light pouring into a temporary studio set up inside a seasonal art show. He paints throughout the day while people move in and out; stopping to watch, to ask questions, to talk about color, memory, or the places his work brings to mind. He welcomes the exchange easily. The brush keeps moving as the conversation unfolds, each informing the other. David won’t return north until spring, but the warmth of his presence carries through the work itself, paintings shaped not by isolation, but by engagement, rhythm, and a deep enjoyment of the act of making.
