The Free Women Textile Collection: Geometric Study No. 41
One-of-a-Kind Handwoven Textile

Presented as part of The Free Women Textile Collection at The Wild Luxe Gallery.

The Free Women Textile Collection

Geometric Study No. 41

A richly patterned handwoven textile created in Afghanistan by women artisans preserving generations of weaving tradition. Geometric Study No. 41 is defined by its rhythmic field of repeating medallion forms arranged within a highly ordered geometric composition.

Warm tones of sandstone, ember, walnut, tobacco, garnet, and midnight charcoal move throughout the textile, creating a sense of grounded warmth and visual structure. The repeating motifs establish a steady cadence across the field, while the layered border work introduces contrasting angular geometry that frames the composition with remarkable balance.

The piece carries both discipline and softness, formal in layout, yet animated by the subtle tonal shifts, asymmetries, and texture inherent to handmade weaving. The result feels enduring, architectural, and deeply rooted in traditional craft.

While the precise regional attribution of this textile remains intentionally unassigned, its visual language reflects longstanding geometric weaving traditions found across parts of Central and South Asia. Rather than assigning the piece to a singular stylistic origin, we present it through a curatorial lens that honors both the individuality of the textile and the artisans who created it.

This rug is part of The Free Women Textile Collection, a curated series of export-ready textiles woven by Afghan women artisans working to preserve heritage craftsmanship through meaningful and dignified work.

No two pieces are exactly alike. Variations in tone, weave, and pattern are inherent to handmade textiles and are considered part of the authenticity and enduring beauty of the work.
